Small Dumpy Level (Precision Engineer's Transit) with Storage Box $215
This is a smaller solid brass reproduction of a Dumpy Level.
A dumpy level is an optical instrument used in surveying to transfer, measure, or set horizontal levels.
The level instrument is set up on a tripod and then accurately set to a leveled condition using the spirit level and leveling screws.
The operator looks through the eyepiece of the telescope while an assistant holds a tape measure or graduated staff vertical at the point under measurement. The instrument and staff are used to gather and/or transfer elevations.
Measurement generally starts from a benchmark with known height determined by a previous survey, or an arbitrary point with an assumed height.
Azimuth readings are taken using the internal magnetic compass.
This model stands 4 3/4 inches (8.5 cm) tall, 3 7/8 inches (9.8 com) wide, and weighs 3 pounds (1.45 kg).
The Small Dumpy Level has an inverting telescope with precision crosshairs and two focusing
adjustments.
The telescope measures 6 1/8 inches (15.56 cm) long and has a removable
brass lens cap to protect the objective lens.
The base has three leveling adjustments and is threaded for a surveyor's tripod mount.
The azimuth angle can be adjusted using a fine tuning control.
There is a see-through magnetic compass on the right side on the Dumpy Level.
On the opposite side there is an adjustable spirit level with a protective
cover stamped "Stanley London."
The underside of the cover has a mirror to aid in reading the spirit level.
This small Dumpy Level is fully functional, but is not certified accurate for surveying.
A beautiful brass-inlaid hardwood case is included for storing or displaying the Dumpy Level.
The box measures 5 1/4 inches (13.5 cm) by 4 inches (10 cm) and is 4 3/8 inches (11 cm) tall.
This is a very beautiful and unique instrument, which will add distinction to any desk or office.
The polished brass Small Dumpy Level and beautiful storage / display box sells for only $215.
We also offer a Large Dumpy Level.
